Everyone's waking up at once, covered in bits of rubble, temporarily without abilities and with a lurking headache. The castle looms around them, irrepressibly gray, huge and silent. The only noises are the people, rustling as they extract themselves from their sarcophagi and look for exits along the arching walkways.

Better take a look around, and see if anyone else knows what's going on.

[Kadar whirls a little at someone else's voice, once he's on his feet.]

--Hello? [someone else is here and conscious and not a skeleton, this is definitely cause to be excited!

upside: they're alive!

downside: they could be a Templar. Kadar's not sure yet. ... he probably shouldn't have just given away his location.]

[seventeenth]

[Desmond looks over to Kadar, confusion and curiosity both plain in his expression.] There's-- [Then surprise overtakes him, and his eyes widen.] Hey, you're--

I'm--? [he hesitates for a second. it's not unusual for Assassins to be recognized, but he shifts slightly into a more guarded stance, just in case. this man, he--

--he looks like Altaïr.]

[seventeenth]

... Kadar? ... Huh. [Then Desmond seems to put Kadar out of his mind, rising to his feet and brushing himself off.] First time that's happened.

[kaderp]

[there's a little bit of suspicion in his tone, but it's mostly curiosity.]

How do you know me?

[seventeenth]

[Desmond gives Kadar a weird look. First time the Bleeding Effect has talked to him, too. May as well go for it, though. He smirks.] Oh, you know. Spying.

[kaderp]

[and that gets a defensive stance and a step back.] Have you been spying on Masyaf?! [ARE YOU A TEMPLAR? DOES HE NEED TO TRY AND STAB YOU?]

[seventeenth]

[... weird!] Well, sort of. Hitching a ride with Altaïr, exploring the holy land-- you know how it goes.

[kaderp]

You know Altaïr?! [And Kadar is taking a step closer, urgently.] Is-- is he here? Have you seen him?

[seventeenth]

[Alright, this is getting really weird. Desmond's smile fades as he stares at Kadar.]Uh-- sort of, yeah, but I don't think he's here.

[kaderp]

[Kadar deflates a little. He'd been hoping... It would be nice to have someone who, even if Altaïr wouldn't have known what was going on, maybe he would have known what Kadar should be doing right now.]

Do-- do you know a man named Malik, by any chance?

[seventeenth]

[Really, really weird. Desmond frowns and approaches Kadar.] I do, actually. [Pause.] Sorta. I've kinda been spying on him, too.

[kaderp]

Have you-- have you seen him here? [he'll overlook the spying part for now-- if you know Altaïr and were traveling with him, you can't be a Templar... and Kadar would really like to see his brother right about now.]

[seventeenth]

Uhh, nope. I haven't seen him since... [He trails off and eyes Kadar.] Okay, wait. This is getting really weird.

[kaderp]

--Since what? Please, tell me! [Kadar sounds urgent. All the worry is coming flooding back, and he wants to know that Malik is okay.]

[seventeenth]

Uhh, since... [He trails off.] Okay, this is-- I can't. It'd be like kicking a puppy, even you are a weird illusion.

[kaderp]

An-- I'm not an illusion! Why would I be? Please, tell me when you last saw my brother!

[seventeenth]

You are definitely illusion. There's no way you're actually here. You died like a thousand years ago.

[kaderp]

[Oh.

so that distinct memory of getting stabbed and thrown off a ledge, that, ah, that wasn't just a weird dream he had, then?

It feels like Kadar's stomach has fallen out and been replaced by nothing but ice, and he barely processes the 'thousand years ago' part.]

But, my brother-- did he--

[seventeenth]

Die? [He shrugs.] Like I said, it's been a thousand years. I've never actually met him.

[kaderp]

How can it have been so long?

[seventeenth]

Cause I have a time machine. [Nods solemnly.]

[kaderp]

...A what?

[seventeenth]

A time machine called the Animus. It lets me spy on my great great great grandparents.

[kaderp]

Your... great grandparents? [you're speaking perfect Syrian, to his ears, but he can't make heads or tails of what you're saying.]
