| Opening Log
Everyone's waking up at once, covered in bits of rubble, temporarily without abilities and with a lurking headache. The castle looms around them, irrepressibly gray, huge and silent. The only noises are the people, rustling as they extract themselves from their sarcophagi and look for exits along the arching walkways.
Better take a look around, and see if anyone else knows what's going on.

Oh. Sorry, I haven't seen anyone like that.
[ But he does wish he could help in some way, after bothering someone who doesn't look that well. Then again, perhaps he'd just be causing trouble. This also keeps him from asking his own question, uncertain if Heine would be receptive to it at all. ]

For the best.
[Heine closes his eyes for a moment and opens them slowly. This place has too many tunnels into light filled rooms. His life underground had little light, not except the unearthly glow of yellows and neon brights.]
You a local?
no subject
No. [ A momentary pause. ]
I take it you aren't, either.
[ Considering the circumstances, Iceland shouldn't have expected anything otherwise. He didn't know better, though, and he tries to not sound disappointed when he makes his statement (which really should have more of an question-like inflection, but oh well, Iceland's tone is always a bit flat). ]

Sunlight gave it away, was underground before- here.
[There is a sharpness to the last word. Here, as if poisonous to be there or part of a bad neighborhood. He does not take it any other way but as word from Iceland. Tone for tone, Heine is not big on giving color to his words either outside low mutters and curses when it strikes him.]
Haven't seen the first electric utility since waking or a train if they got them working now.

I don't kn-- um, sorry, what do you mean by 'underground?' [ Is this slang, literal, what? Iceland clearly doesn't know what to think of this. Though he might get an idea of how to interact better if he knows where this guy is from. Well, there's no harm in asking outright... right? ]
...And where are you from? If you don't mind my asking.
no subject
City, underground. You- don't know of it? [He takes a passive breath after asking. So he looks young, people would still tell the youthful like Iceland of the underground. Warnings mostly Heine would think. Matters of slums and gangs being norm down there.
Not like home sweet home with the sun and gentle breeze- a thought that brings Giovanni's words to mind.]
no subject
I meant, um, what country are you from? [ He hopes he isn't prying too much. ]

[You would think someone wrote down how things went from the golden age to a seasonless world bearing the scars of yesterday. Heine believes it to be a way bury the past completely. Information about things before the city are hard to get your hands on according to Badou suggesting that someone is keen on keeping what happened wrapped tightly.
Missles, chemicals, revolution, he really does not know or care all the much. Survival means more now and the ideas that the old world carried brought a lot of the trouble he, and others, and dealing with now.
Iceland's hair and eyes are not strange, even horns and tails were not. What does get him is the questions of where, of countries.]
You saying there are countries left?
no subject
Yeah... there's a lot. [ Or so he hopes. It's hard to tell, given their current predicament, but Iceland is alive, so the others should be as well, even if they aren't here. ]
no subject
[The city was it for Heine. If there was something out there, he has never seen it in person or heard of it. Countries are a familiar idea.
A collection of cities and prefectures under one government, nothing new about it other than living in a place that is working on a smaller scale.]
no subject
Nevermind then. [ Forget about it, it isn't important anyway. It's tempting to say these things and back off, only because he doesn't know how to deal. He's never met anyone who didn't know of countries before. Or rather, would imply something like Heine did. That they don't exist anymore? Ridiculous. Maybe this guy is just nuts. ]
...I don't mean to pry or anything, but um, you really don't know about countries?
[ There, a slight departure from their original topic. Not like it's any less awkward, but Iceland is curious. ]
no subject
[The only reason Heine can understand why it is being asked of him again is the fear of loss. If there are no countries, then the people one knew could be gone as well.]
I lived inside a city my whole life. Nothing outside far as I know.
[The world was the city. Such things like coastlines and canyons are but ideas, not backed with images of what it is. From his view and what he has heard, Heine gets the implications that not much is left in the world his side. Then again there is not much left in the city itself.]
Maybe there is. Hell if I know, too much already going on.

I didn't mean to hold you up or anything... um, sorry if I bothered you. [ It must be strange, be approached by some random teenager and being questioned about where you come from. Iceland would think so, anyway. It's fine he didn't get the answers he wanted (really, what was he expecting?), it's not fair to ask this man to delay his-- whatever he's doing because Iceland is lost and confused. ]
no subject
Held up from what?
[His hand braces the collar of his shirt. Keeping still is not going to get anyone anywhere. He glances away to another open window and path.]
Not being held up if I can't find a damn way out.
no subject
That's why I stopped you. I mean, I thought you knew this place. [ At first, though their conversation quickly revealed that no, Heine doesn't know any more than Iceland does. ]
no subject
[He feels that the deeper he goes inside the mazes of this place, the more lost he becomes. It still beats being still and thinking about getting out.]
no subject
[ He shifts his weight from one foot to the other. Iceland could have worded his sentence more carefully, so it didn't sound like he was giving Heine permission to leave, but, he didn't want the other man hanging around if he didn't want to and wanted to get exploring. ]
