Everyone's waking up at once, covered in bits of rubble, temporarily without abilities and with a lurking headache. The castle looms around them, irrepressibly gray, huge and silent. The only noises are the people, rustling as they extract themselves from their sarcophagi and look for exits along the arching walkways.

Better take a look around, and see if anyone else knows what's going on.

[ Serge is, ah, exploring around that particular area when the lid of a sarcophagus nearby crumbles and a girl spills out from within. That's more than enough to grab his attention, and he's a few yards away when he catches her words, which are . . . fairly strange. The first time, huh? He can relate, just a little. ]

Believe me, you're not the only one.

[slay]

[ She looks up from dusting herself off and fixes him with a furrowed-brow look, not loving the idea of other people being stuck with her while she's all power-sapped. ]

Getting that. Who are you?

[sagacity]

[ He smiles despite the look she's giving him. It's natural for her to be irritated for multiple reasons, after all. He's still got a faint headache, himself. ]

Call me Serge. You okay?

[slay]

Buffy. [ It's a returned introduction. ] Of the all in one piece sort. Which I'm gonna call good enough for now. [ She rubs her shoulder, which is sporting what's gonna turn out to be a bruise from the rubble. She couldn't begin to explain the weak exhaustion flu symptoms that lack of Slayer powers give, so she'll avoid that beast entirely. ] You?

Hey, that's as good as any other sort, if not better. [ He gives her shoulder a look, but doesn't press her on it. Anyway. ] I'm fine. Just got a minor headache, which I'm chalking up to the situation. Thanks for asking.

[slay]

I'm gonna take a flying leap of a guess and say you don't remember how you got here, either, do you?

[sagacity]

Not a thing. Nor do I recognize this place -- it doesn't look like anywhere in the Republic, that's for sure.

[slay]

The Republic of what? I was in Scotland before I made with the poof and hello, crypt.

[ He pauses, and for a brief moment he furrows his brows. Scot-a-what now. ]

Turemilia.

[slay]

... Okay. My geography may not be the best, but where exactly is the Republic of Turmeric and why did you name your country after the smelliest of spices?

[sagacity]

Are you serious? I'm not the one who named it, but it's one of the biggest nations in the world. [ What is going on with this generation. Belatedly, he adds: ] Though I've never heard of Scotland myself.

[slay]

Apparently not that big. So, what, are we talking rival of Russia or ... what?

[sagacity]

I have no idea what Russia is, either. But the Republic is in control of half the world.

[slay]

... [ Her expression deflates into something deadpan. This wasn't even a drugs or crazy level of deluded, this was a he's completely serious and even more seriously displaced kind of deluded. ]

Oh boy.

[sagacity]

[ He seems to perk back up at that, straightening and regaining a casual look. This was never about him or his country, after all. ]

What's wrong?

[slay]

Alternate realities. That's what. Either you're from a very non-Earth planet in a galaxy extremely far away, or we're talking dimensional hijinks abound.

[sagacity]

Dimensional hijinks, huh. I don't know about you, but this is pretty different from the last dimensional trip I took. [ A beat. ] So you're not from Fulheim?

[slay]

Serge, I wouldn't even know what a Full-helm was if you hadn't just said so. [ A beat. ] Waiiiit a minute. Did you just say last dimensional trip? As in trans-dimensional?

[sagacity]

Something like that. [ No harm in telling her a thing or two, right? ] It was more full of monsters than anything else. There isn't a lot to say about it.

[slay]

So, not all that different then. Good to know.

[sagacity]

What's that supposed to mean?

[slay]

Oh, not -- Not here. I just meant. You know, back where I come from. Big on the monsters.

[sagacity]

They're just everywhere, aren't they? So, you think this place has got a few to boast?

[slay]

Survey says yes. In the definish sense. Haven't seen one so far, but I know waaaay better than to assume that means they're not lurking.

You're right about that. For all we know, a sarcophagus could come to life and start eating people.
