02-- Things might yet turn around.
So he's taken to spending quite a bit at time in the common area of the residential chamber. Usually? Chilling out at the table or finding a nice little niche to settle in. Right then? He'd found a stone bench near a window that looked out onto the courtyard. On the opposite bench, a green-gray crate with numbers on it and a packing label. Someone got a package today. How? Probably a good question.
He'd gotten it the night before at the fountain while he was still restlessly awake. Didn't really take him long to figure out what had happen once he decided to throw a coin in and make a wish but he didn't think for a second that it would work. About two hours later? He asked again. Past midnight.
Now. It was late afternoon and he'd held off from indulging long enough. He settled onto the window seat, propped a leg up on the opposite stone ledge and plucked an apple from the crate of perfectly ripe fruit. Strawberries, mangoes, apricots, grapes, apples and pears. Perfect. He took a bite out of the apple, sighing contently.
So he'd lost his nerve for a spell. So those damn Shadows sapped a bit of his courage away. Didn't bother him so much right now. He'd just have this and enjoy his little birthday eating, drinking and being merry. Like you're supposed to do.
"Bottoms up." He said, drinking the last out of his flask before looking to the bottle to fill it back up.
[OOC: A window seat are common structures in castles. They look like this. Feel free to join Duo and have a drink, eat some good food, he's happy to share and plenty to go around. Also I may prefer prose but you can also respond in comment spam. I really don't care either way.]

"Yeah, we were." Though at this point they were really more than a team. More like a family, abet a very dysfunctional one. One that rarely managed to get together whenever there wasn't a conflict to settle. Despite that, it was a nice family to have.

The older pilot couldn't help yawning a bit, betraying his exhaustion. He started to peel his orange, tossing the bitter substance aside. "Well, just say what you need me to do. I'll do it."

"Don't worry. I will." Right now there wasn't anything, not that he could think of at least. Exploring was a given. Duo didn't need to be told to do that.
Heero finished the rest of his orange and looked into the box to see what else was given to Duo. It was a little odd that this place would be so willing to give something up like this. Rummaging around, he grabbed an apple and grabbed it.

"There are apple trees in that courtyard outside. Fish too. We should make an effort to kill some of those gulls too at some point. It's all food, n'it?" Duo asked absently, thinking about some of the things they had to do.
"Wonder if we can grow any more fruit? I'd kill for some strawberries for breakfast every day." Well, maybe not kill. Heero would know what he meant.

Biting into the apple, he looked out at the courtyard again. There were a lot of viable food sources out there and given their current food situation, seemed a whole lot more palatable than the mush in here. "You could try it, if you wanted." He looked over at Duo and smirked. "Or you could wish for something at that well of yours. A steak or whatever you like."

"Don't even joke about that. You have no idea how long I've been wanting that. Just. Meat. Real food." It's been a while since he's had a decent meal to start with, and this fruit? He huffed, shaking his head.

As for the topic of food, he frowned slightly at Duo's reaction and then sighed with an apologetic look.
"I meant nothing by it." Alright, so food was a sensitive topic and one he now knew better than to joke about. It should have been obvious, given everything that Duo had told him, but he didn't think anything of it at the time.

"It's fine. Really. It's just we've got limited resources, y'know? Fish in the pond, sure. Birds. Damn hard to catch I suspect. Without a gun."

Getting up and tossing the apple core aside, he reached out and placed his hand on Duo's shoulder. Duo looked like he was about to drop at any moment. It was best to end this conversation and let the older version of his friend catch some sleep.
"You look tired. Get some sleep."

"But it'd just be so much easier." He stretched. Using a gun on a bird that small almost seemed like a waste.
Duo smiled at the hand on his shoulder, weary but content. "Hmm." Man.
"Guess I could use a nap. I'll still be hangin' here for a while."

He patted Duo on the shoulder before he pulled his hand away. "Be careful, Duo." The older man didn't need to be told twice, especially after his experience with those shadow monsters, but Heero couldn't help but say it. Be careful and stay safe.
After giving the common area a good look over, he started on his way. His plans for now were to check out the room he'd been assigned to and maybe get outside to see what they had to work with.

Careful? Oh. After that run in with those monsters, that was a given. Settling in, he watched his friend leave and crossed his arms, letting his eyes close for a little nap in his sunbeam.
