02-- Things might yet turn around.

So he's taken to spending quite a bit at time in the common area of the residential chamber. Usually? Chilling out at the table or finding a nice little niche to settle in. Right then? He'd found a stone bench near a window that looked out onto the courtyard. On the opposite bench, a green-gray crate with numbers on it and a packing label. Someone got a package today. How? Probably a good question.

He'd gotten it the night before at the fountain while he was still restlessly awake. Didn't really take him long to figure out what had happen once he decided to throw a coin in and make a wish but he didn't think for a second that it would work. About two hours later? He asked again. Past midnight.

Now. It was late afternoon and he'd held off from indulging long enough. He settled onto the window seat, propped a leg up on the opposite stone ledge and plucked an apple from the crate of perfectly ripe fruit. Strawberries, mangoes, apricots, grapes, apples and pears. Perfect. He took a bite out of the apple, sighing contently.

So he'd lost his nerve for a spell. So those damn Shadows sapped a bit of his courage away. Didn't bother him so much right now. He'd just have this and enjoy his little birthday eating, drinking and being merry. Like you're supposed to do.

"Bottoms up." He said, drinking the last out of his flask before looking to the bottle to fill it back up.

[OOC: A window seat are common structures in castles. They look like this. Feel free to join Duo and have a drink, eat some good food, he's happy to share and plenty to go around. Also I may prefer prose but you can also respond in comment spam. I really don't care either way.]

"Just wondering 'why so glum,' but then I forgot. You got in the same situation I did. Can't really fault you for that." Duo muses, relaxing, looking out the window at the sun setting.

"Best way to recover is to relax and prepare for the next time."

Ratchet shrugged and sighed. "I don't know why. Guess it just got me thinking too much. A small vacation and I'll be fine to get back out there and look through more of the castle."

Duo smiled a bit. "Me too. That's what I was thinking. I'm gonna start looking for supplies soon. You interested in helping me out?" Get that wrench working on something, the little guy needed something to focus on later.

"As for now? I'm happy exactly where I am. Feeling pretty damn lucky."

"Sure. I'd be glad to help." Ratchet smiled and took another bite of his apple. "You should feel lucky. Nice haul you got here."

"I am lucky. I got it by wishing for it at the spring. Who knows if it'll even work again. You should give it a try." He seemed excited by the possibility of it, but then he reaches in for a strawberry and offers it to the lombax.

"Here."

"What's this one called?" He took the strawberry and sniffed it before taking a bite.

"Strawberry. They're really good. Tart and sweet." Had to wonder how much Ratchet really cared for sweets. He looked more like a carnivore, actually.

Ratchet took a bit and slowly chewed the strawberry. Normally he did like meat better, savory juicy meat at that, but he could eat fruits and vegetables. And it was after a moment his eyes suddenly lit up and he swallowed the strawberry only to take another bite.

"This is really good!"

Duo could go for a steak, and it was something they were going to have to work on. Getting some real food around here. Because of the fact they didn't have the resources to keep this fruit fresh for long, he didn't mind eating it all at once.

"Glad you like it."

Ratchet nodded and finished off the strawberry before grabbing another. "So which one is your favorite? Of the fruit I mean."

"Love strawberries. Apples are a close second, so I'm glad we've already got some in the courtyard. Think maybe that slop they feed us for breakfast would taste better with fruit?" Could very well be the case.

Ratchet chuckled. "Not sure if anything will make that slop taste better. Maybe we can make a wish for better food from the fountain. Think it could work?"

"Could wish for seeds. Could wish for a blender and blend the fruit with the slop. Who knows, buddy. Who knows." He offered his fist to bump.

"Maybe they'll stop feeding us like prison inmates and start giving us real food?"

"It's worth a try." Ratchet returned the fist bump and held out his hand.

"Got one more strawberry for me?"

Right on.

"Yeah, there's about eight more." He said after a brief count. He plucked another two out and offered one to him before taking a bite into his juicy berry.

Ratchet ate this strawberry a little faster than the others. Seemed someone was really liking them.

"We need to wish for more fruit if the planting doesn't work. A giant crate ever few days."

"I dunno man, I think karma might catch up to us." Duo said, grinning at his furry friend as he ate the fruit. He went in again and grabbed him an orange.

"Try this. Gotta peel the skin first though."

"Oh come on. What is Karma going to do to us?" Ratchet pulled off one of his gloves and used his claws to strip away the skin. He picked at the fruit inside before peeling a piece off and eating it. His face scrunched up at the flavor and he shivered.

"What is this thing?!"

"What it hasn't already done?" Duo asked rhetorically. He watched Ratchet's face react to the tangy sweet citrus and he chuckled.

"It's an orange. Don't like it?"

"It's kind of sour. Sweet too though. I don't know. I might." He took another bite and did the same reaction again.

"Your taste buds are different. Try some of those grapes." He offers to take the orange back instead.

Ratchet exchanged the grapes for the orange and took one of them and plopped it into his mouth. Once he took his first bite and the sweet juice hit his tongue he smiled wide.

"Hmmm...that's delicious."

Duo took another piece of the orange and ate it, smirking at his friend.

"What kinda food do you usually eat, Ratch?"

"I usually eat meat, junk food, pizza, things like that. Clank always tries to get me to eat more vegetables but I don't like too many of them."

"Dude. You aliens have Pizza?" How wild!

"Musta been picking up our radio waves. That's just uncanny."
