First Gold Bolt [Open]

It was dark. Night had fallen over the island and the only light to be seen is flickering torches of the stone room. A broken stone walkway once stretched across the room but has collapsed in the middle. Down below was a dusty and dirty floor, covered in pieces of debris and rock. For those outside the room, the sound of grunts and movement could be heard. There was shuffling, a growl, the sound of metal hitting stone, the sound of a loud crack and finally a thud.

Inside the room, down in the messy bottom section was a group of shadow creatures. Their glowing orbs provided some light but not enough to illuminate the dark depths of the room. The torches line the walls but not all were lit. But if one looked closely, they could see what has drawn the shadow monsters out tonight. There was a body, lying face up on the ground. It was small and from the outline it looks like it may have a pair of large horns, perhaps? Either way, it was unmoving as the monsters slowly surround it. One larger creature lifted the small body with easy, and threw it over his shoulder. There was the sound of metal hitting stone again as the body dropped something. It bounced and skid into the light of a torch. It was a very large wrench from the looks of it.

The monsters began their retreat. Heading for the shadow portal in the corner by one of the torches. It seemed the monsters had caught someone out alone at night. What shall you do?

The thing about trolls? Their eyes are accustomed to dark places. They are naturally nocturnal creatures. So when Karkat made his way out of the respiteblock, his vision was unhindered by the darkness. Really the reason for leaving, alone, was just kind of the stress from being in the same room as a pair of black lovebirds. Eridan was his matesprit, yes. Sollux was also his moirail, but the two of them hated each other and Karkat had a hard enough time trying to balance his feelings of pity with their blackrom. He found it easier to just leave and permit them some much needed alone time. Besides, ew. They are far too comfortable with each other for Karkat's tastes.

Karkat heard the noise echo through the stone walls instead of actually seeing anything. It was enough to make him turn on his heal and head in the direction of the sound. Arriving just in time to see those shadow creatures, he bared his fangs and took out his dorky sickle. The troll had yet to see these monsters roam the halls like this, but Eridan had been one. Seeing the portal and how those things were heading towards it ( was one carrying something? ), Karkat was glad he and Sollux did not follow Eridan into them. Karkat never did like the feeling that he got from them.

While he wasn't sure what this was all about, but usually how these things worked demanded that he take action. Karkat wasn't about to let these things go along their merry way. Nope, he was going to take them out. So off Karkat charged, blade in hand and with the intent to stop those things from leaving.

In his prepherial vision, he noted that one took off. Fine. That would give him a chance to deal with these two. As long Karkat was by the portal, it would have to land some time. If these things thought they would scare off a troll? They had another thing coming to them. He spent over 600 hours in that shitty game, solving puzzles and fighting off enemies. Karkat was confident that he would be okay.

As the smaller one lashed out, Karkat ducked. He would go for the legs, disable it.

These were nothing like the monsters in the game. They were soft and pretty weak in comparison. Hitting the ground with one swipe like that? All right. His confidence in the matter was growing and as that second one came forward, all he compared it to was like strifing with his own Lusus. Having that giant crab to fight every day sure did make for a rather limber and sturdy troll. One wrong hit with those giant claws and Karkat wouldn't be able to show his face in public in fear of his blood color's discovery.

That made this too easy, Karkat opting to dodge to the right. Maybe, if there was enough time, he would be able to slice off the creature's hand at the wrist.

Now there were only a few options available. The left wasn't one. The right wasn't either. Karkat would either have to roll forward or leap back. He would also have to time it just right, if he was going to take the forward option. One second late and he would get hit with both attacks, but then he would be able to turn on them. Their backs to him. Was it worth the risk?

Not entirely, as it would seem. Instead of going forward, Karkat waited until the last possible second and left backwards.
