For the record? This really, really sucks.

[Danny announced his opinion aloud to the general vicinity.

Waking up locked inside a box was never good. Waking up locked inside a box that looked sort of like one of those sarcophagus things with a killer headache and his powers shorted out? He was pretty sure that there was no way this could end well. Had he been kidnapped? Again? What did they want this time?

With a lot of effort and complaints he'd managed to break out of the box, only to discover the creepy abandoned castle. Great. Why were they always creepy and abandoned? You'd think he'd run into a little originality eventually.

Well, no point waiting around here for who ever did this to come back. Danny purposefully heads off into the castle. All he needed to do was find somewhere he could hide until his powers came back. Then he could break out of here and get home. Maybe even in time for tomorrow's math quiz.

It would be easy, right?]

I don't know. A couple dozen, maybe. I haven't counted or anything. They're all too busy freaking out to sit still. [She bites her lip and looks him over.] You should probably be freaking out too.

Oh. Right. I'm totally freaking out. Just, you know, in a not obvious way.

That's good. 'Cause I think we're stuck here.

Well that's just great. I had a math quiz tomorrow too.

[She stares at him blankly, completely unsure if he's serious or not. Is this what normal people are like?

...in the end she decides to just continue.] I think it's a kidnapping, maybe. But we haven't seen or heard from anyone. It would be polite to tell us why we've been kidnapped, don't you think?

Unless they're trying to make us nervous. Or they forgot. I wouldn't put that past some people.

It's been a couple days. I'm nervous. Mission accomplished.

So seriously, there's been no sign of why we're here? No villainous speeches? No ghosts suddenly popping out of nowhere and announcing their life stories and goals?

No. I guess it's creepy enough to be totally haunted. But no. It's just us. The doors won't even open. [She pauses, then offers:] There's a glowing pool?

[He'd see about that. Unless someone had gone to the trouble of making all of the doors ghost-proof there was no way that would stop him.

Once he figured out why his powers were shorted out.]

...Seriously? Did it try to eat anyone yet?

I don't think so. It just...glows. [Shrug.]

...Weird.

I guess so.

[She goes quiet and drops her gaze for a second, tugging on her skirt like a nervous tic. In her head, she's going down the checklist for social interactions.] I'm Marnie, by the way.

Nice to meet you. I'm Danny. Danny Fenton.

Yeah. You too. Are you normal, Danny?

...What is that supposed to mean?

[Suddenly he is ten times as jumpy.]

[If she notices, her expression doesn't show it. Ah, the wonders of poor socialization!]

I was thinking. Normal people don't get kidnapped like this, right? In movies and stuff. Usually there's something weird about them...or their family is super rich or something. So I thought it might be like that for you.

Or maybe I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That's not really a yes or a no.

[He shrugs.]

My family hunts ghosts. It's possible that could have something to do with this. Or maybe it has nothing to do with it.

[She gives him another is-he-messing-with-me-or-not stare.]

Ghosts. You hunt ghosts?

I don't. If I can avoid it. My parents do.

...see, this is what I mean. Nobody here is normal at all.

Normal is overrated sometimes.

[For some reason she laughs at that; a short, incredulous sound, before looking away almost nervously.]

Um...anyway, there's...some rooms to stay in over there. Or I can show you the creepy pool...if you want.
