Queen Plot - Mingle Post!

The sun has nearly set when the attack begins.

It's quiet at first, and easy to miss. Pools of shadow form and then slowly expand, and then strange creatures of the same rise from them, their only distinguishable feature their strange, glowing eyes.

And then they move, lurching forward and spreading through out the tower, around the fountain, and across the bridge. They grab whoever doesn't run fast enough, and attack only those who attack them first. They're single-minded, but swift and strong, and escaping from them won't be easy.

And of course, elsewhere lurks their master, the Queen...

NEVER LATER JUST EARLY FOR NEXT TIME

He waits for Danny to fire at the creatures with-- whatever it is that just happened. He moves in with his blade and makes an attempt to kick at the creature, gain some distance. So-- suggesting that they attack was a bad idea. This... might have been a good reason for him to keep his mouth shut.

The sudden arrow has him looking back to spot Wander.

Ah, and now there's another one. Then Queen's gaze shifts to Wander and she simply stares at him impassively for a moment.

Then she flicks her right hand carelessly and two more pools of shadow appear, from which two more shadow creatures lurch up. There are plenty of them to spare, and she needs as many of the strangers back as possible.

...Great. This was why he hated fighting cannon fodder. Danny calls forward some cold energy and flings forward in a burst of blue light, intending to trap the new shadows in solid ice.

"She's summoning them! Someone, take her out!"

The bow and arrow was a nice addition to the fight, but that damned queen was making everything difficult by just adding to the numbers of shadows.

Which was obviously intentional, but no less irritating to Duo. So when Danny called out his thought to go after the source, Duo was all over that, wheeling on the queen with a dangerous curve to his lips.

"Alright lady. Last chance. If you got a way to send us all home this could be over real quick and nice-like, and no one would ever bother you and your creepy castle again."

Chances of this working?

Less than zero.

And Wander stared right back at the Queen, with interest; she summoned more. Not completely out of the unexpected. But they looked like creatures he was almost familiar with, in a way.

He nodded to Altair in acknowledgement, but that was about it. Duo might have been trying to negotiate, but Wander had a feeling it'd be useless. He strung another arrow on his bow, remaining at a distance, and just as Danny suggested, aimed straight for the Queen.

Reaching for his side at the comment, Altaïr pulls his sword out. Wander and Duo seem to have the queen covered and for it he keeps still, sword pointed towards the creatures. He's ready to provide cover just in case, as best as he can.

He keeps quiet, waits for the Queen's response.

The Queen tilts her head at Duo, staring a him and his expression, considering his challenge. Her gaze drifts from him to Danny, to Wander -- and it lingers on Wander for a moment -- to Altaïr.

Then she laughs. She laughs and laughs, tilting her head back and letting the sound roll through the chamber. The shadow creatures draw up short then skitter backward, uncertainty evident in their postures. It takes several long moments for her laughter to subside and for her to tip her head forward again. When she finally does, she's smiling a cold, haughty smile.

Then she points at Duo and white-green energy begins to crackle around her.

...That wasn't good.

Danny lets out a panicked cry and throws himself between Duo and the energy as he throws up the strongest shield he can create.

"Aw shi--!"

Duo did the only thing he could think of in that situation. Duck and cover. He expected to get hit no matter what, but there was a small hope he'd survive it. Maybe.

That was until he felt nothing actually strike him, and looked up to see Danny shielding him. He let out a frightened rush of air, realizing with some embarrassment that he was actually shaking.

"Th-that... didn't go the way I wanted it to..."

He watched carefully; she was laughing? And the shadows seemed to be recoiling a bit at her laugh. Wander had no idea what it meant, and now was not the time to think about it. She was a threat and thes hadows were dangerous. That's all there was to it for now.

Someone else was being attacked, but it seemed that someone else was handling it. So Wander just concentrated on the task, drawing another arrow to keep firing at the Queen. She had to go down somehow.

Altaïr narrows his eyes when the queen looks at him; his frown deepens and his muscles tense. Her attentions go to another member of their party however and he notices the movements, registers all the actions. A breath in and he decides to follow Wander's lead.

His hands are quick, reaching for his belt; he throws two of his knives at her.

The Queen's blast crashed into Danny's shield. White green energy struggling against the green barrier. Unfortunately for Danny, he doesn't have some darker force behind him and he barrier will fall with the blast explodes against the barrier.

As for the knives and arrow, she lowers her hand and both seem like she may let them hit without any interference, only they don't. There is a flash of dark purple across her as both of the projectiles hit a barrier and they fly away from her and land on the ground. She laughs again, clearly amused by how foolish their attempts were.

[Danny screams and goes tumbling backwards as his shield explodes.]

And Duo went toppling with him, though not as far as Danny did. He lay where he landed, groaning and watching the Queen. Blood ran down the side of his face where his head had connected with the stone and split skin open above his eye, drip-dripping little red dots beneath him.

"This... could be goin' better..."
