Toothless purred softly as he followed Duo at a distance long enough to react should the human try something. Then, the man spoke to him again as he began to climb the stairs.

Toothless understood his favorite word, "eat" and the other, "me," and the inquisitive inflection. See? Smart dragon. But, eat Duo? Eat a human? Him? He shook his head and gave a disgusted snort.

Humans were gross.

And there wasn't much to Duo, anyway.

Besides, he found that humans tended to provide him with much tastier things when they were alive and well.
